About Me

Cześc!

Mam na imię Karolina.

I'll tell you a bit about myself so you can get to know me, but if you're not interested, just scroll down to read about my methods and teaching approach.

I am a certified teacher of the Polish language with a master's degree, which I obtained from the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University in the field of Teaching Polish as a Foreign and Second Language. I have been teaching since 2017 – during this time I have gained experience working at a school in Tbilisi, at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, in language schools, and running my own business. I worked with groups and individual students, in online and in-person classes.

TEACHING APPROACH

My approach to teaching has been shaped by my experience working with students of various ages, educational backgrounds, and experiences from different countries, and therefore shaped by different languages and cultures. That is why I care most about making students as independent as possible in learning and using the Polish language. I provide my students with tools to help them understand the language as a system and techniques to facilitate learning – this way, the student learns to react correctly to interactions in a foreign language, draw conclusions, and learn the language from others, not just in the presence of a teacher.

TEACHING METHODS

In the teaching process, I rely on the knowledge about languages and the world that the student already possesses – we try to make Polish just another way of describing the world, not a new system that overturns everything known upside down. I enjoy delving into the intricacies of other languages and I am happy to look for differences and similarities between them to support the student as much as possible.

I divide each planned course into mini-blocks, so the student has control over their progress – they see what they have learned in the set time, which helps them build new knowledge on what has been previously acquired.

The Polish language courses are conducted in Polish, but we always keep English on standby to avoid unnecessary stress and pressure associated with learning – by the principle that a stressed and frustrated student is a student blocked from acquiring knowledge.
